Here’s how God has shown up in Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.
Like many young athletes, Joel Haler had one dream — to play basketball at the highest level.
By high school, he was a standout athlete, admired by coaches and teammates alike, even while battling a degenerative disc disease in his back.
“Basketball was my god,” Joel admitted. “That’s what I lived for.”
He was recruited by Hope College in Michigan and seemed destined for greatness — until one day, everything changed.
During practice his sophomore year, Joel heard a sudden pop in his back. Hours later, he woke up in his dorm room paralyzed from the waist down.
“I called my dad and said, ‘I can’t feel my legs. I don’t know what to do.’”

No Explanation — and No Hope
Joel was rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where doctors ran every possible test for 11 days. The diagnosis?
Nothing.
“They couldn’t find a reason. No nerve damage. No injury. Just paralysis.”
He went home in a wheelchair, devastated.
“I felt worthless,” Joel said. “I blamed God. This wasn’t the life I was supposed to have.”
His parents, Eric and Karen Haler, and their church community refused to stop praying.
“The body of Christ surrounded us,” Karen said. “They prayed and believed for healing when we couldn’t see it.”
A Promise and a Prophecy
One Sunday, a young boy at church named Braxton Farmer approached Joel.
“I was praying and I heard a voice say, ‘He’ll walk on a Thursday,’” Braxton told him.
The message hit Joel hard. He remembered a dream where he was running through his high school gym banner that said “J-23.”
When he checked the calendar, January 23rd fell on a Thursday—just four days away.
“I freaked out,” Joel said. “God had already shown me the same thing.”
The Night Everything Changed
At 3:00 AM on Thursday, January 23rd, Joel woke up with tingling in his toes.
“It started moving up my legs—it was painful, but I knew something was happening.”
After an hour and a half, the sensation reached his hips. Joel swung his legs over the side of the bed… and stood.
“Doctors said I’d never walk again. But I stood up and walked like nothing was wrong.”
His parents were stunned. His doctors were speechless. His church rejoiced.
“That was a day of great joy,” his father said. “We knew this was God.”

💪 Restored for a Greater Purpose
Today, Joel is fully healed — walking, running, and even playing basketball again.
“Now, when I play, I know it’s a gift from God,” Joel said. “Jesus gave me a new identity. He completely restored my life.”
He shares his story as a living testimony that miracles still happen — not just in Bible times, but today.
“It’s opened my heart more to the Lord and to the supernatural. God still heals.”
