God Story: What They Couldn’t See on the Scan – A True Story of Impossible Healing

Here’s how God is showing up in Bend, OR 97701 today.

In July 2022, Valerie began noticing unusual fatigue while working on her family’s property. What she thought would be a routine doctor’s visit quickly unraveled into a nightmare. After rushed bloodwork and an emergency room call, she was told there was a tumor on her pancreas. Within weeks, her diagnosis shifted from stage one to stage four pancreatic cancer — an incurable disease with an average survival of just eleven months.

Sitting in the doctor’s office with her husband and best friend, Valerie heard the words no one wants to hear. “You’re going to die. Do you hear me? You’re going to die.” But instead of fear, a holy boldness rose in her heart. Looking the doctor in the eye, she said: “I did hear you. But you cannot give me my end date. The only one who can tell me when I’m going to die is my Lord.”

For months she endured palliative chemotherapy, supported by her husband, children, and a community of prayer warriors from Church of the Cascades. Even after she and her family had stopped attending, the church rallied around her with meals, visits, prayers, and love. Their faith reminded Valerie that she was never alone.

In October 2023, during a ladies’ retreat, Valerie’s story took a dramatic turn. As she prayed, she felt the Lord ask her: “Why aren’t you asking for a miracle?” She realized she had been quick to pray for others, but had never directly asked God to heal her. That night she laid hands on her belly and prayed simply, “Lord, I’m asking for a miracle. Will You remove my cancer?”

At the retreat, friends prayed for her with passion, and strangers testified they saw light glowing around her. Valerie went home with a renewed sense of expectancy, believing God would confirm His healing in her next scan.

The following week, her CT results came back — and to her shock, the cancer was gone. Her husband had to pull over on the highway when she called him with the news, both of them weeping with joy. Even her doctor had overlooked the clear scan at first, so convinced was he that she was destined to die. But it was true: there was no cancer left.

To be certain, Valerie traveled to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas for a second opinion. Their advanced scans confirmed the impossible: she was cancer-free. What doctors had declared terminal, God had overturned.

Now, in 2025, Valerie continues to live cancer-free, sharing her testimony with hundreds through social media, her business, and women’s events. Most precious of all, she has led her mother-in-law and a dear friend to Christ because of her story.

Valerie declares: “Don’t focus on the thing; focus on the Lord. In Jesus, we have hope. God really can do the impossible — and He will use your story no matter what.”
