God Story: Holding On to Faith Against Rare Cancer

Here’s how God has shown up in Jacksonville, FL 32224.

As a mother of four, 38-year-old Marjorie didn’t have time to be sick. But in September 2012, a stubborn cough sent her to the doctor — and what she thought was just a lung issue turned into the fight of her life.

“They found a spot on what they thought was my lung,” Marjorie said. “I was a former smoker years ago, and I thought it caught up to me. They referred me for a biopsy, and I was afraid.”

The results came back positive. She needed surgery to remove part of her lung.

“Any time you’re going into your chest, it’s major surgery,” she said.

She and her husband John prayed for the cancer to be completely removed.

“My prayer was, ‘Lord, let them get it all. In Jesus’ name. I don’t have time for chemo — I have a family to care for.’”

A Shocking Diagnosis

During surgery, doctors discovered the mass wasn’t in her lung at all but on one of her ribs. After removing the rib, they sent it for testing. When the results came back, the doctor walked in with a counselor and a box of tissues.

“I started crying,” Marjorie said. “The oncologist said, ‘This is mesenchymal chondrosarcoma — a rare, aggressive bone cancer.’”

There was no known treatment protocol. Her oncologist recommended high-dose radiation followed by experimental chemotherapy.

John admitted, “It shook me to my core. I was afraid of losing my wife — and our children losing their mother.”

Even as they prayed, fear tried to take hold.

“I believe in healing,” Marjorie said, “but I thought, this is really bad. My life is over.”

The Fight of Faith

Just before Christmas, Marjorie began daily radiation treatments that left her exhausted and weak.

“I didn’t want my husband to worry,” she said. “He was already terrified.”

John wrestled with God.

“I was angry,” he said. “We’ve been faithful servants. How could You let this happen?”

Then came chemotherapy. One round in, Marjorie had a severe reaction that left her unconscious — nearly comatose. The doctor warned that she might not survive the treatment.

While her husband prayed and the doctors searched for options, Marjorie had a supernatural encounter.

“I heard God say, ‘You can die and come home with Me — or you can choose life and live.’ I said, ‘God, I want to live.’ I felt a surge of electricity through my body. I sat up in bed and said, ‘I’m healed.’”

Choosing Faith Over Fear

Against medical advice, Marjorie and John stopped treatment.

“My oncologist told me, ‘You’ll die if you don’t have chemo. There’s zero-percent survival.’ But I chose to trust God.”

Three months later, she went for a scan.

“The first one came up negative,” she said. “‘See? I told you. I’m cancer-free in Jesus’ name.’”

Every follow-up test came back clear — three months later, six months later, every year after that.

Her final scan in December 2018 confirmed what she already knew: still cancer-free.

A Life of Praise

Today, Marjorie shares her testimony wherever she can — declaring the healing power of God and the strength of faith.

“Every morning you wake up, thank Him. Praise Him no matter how sick you feel. Speak His Word over your life. They told me I wasn’t supposed to be here — but by His stripes, I am healed.”

Her story is living proof that prayer can turn fear into faith and transform a diagnosis into a miracle.
