God Story: Broken, Beautiful, Beloved — Kayla’s Redemption and Gabriella’s Miracle

Here’s how God has shown up in Westerville, OH 43081.

Sitting quietly in the dark of night, Kayla (Zizelman) Frantz held her newborn daughter and studied every one of her delicate features. Her baby girl, Gabriella Grace, had been born with a rare neurological disorder known as Aicardi Syndrome — her right eye had never developed, her brain had congenital defects, and scoliosis left her with a crooked spine.

Still, Kayla saw only beauty. “She was the most beautiful miracle I had ever seen,” she said. Her heart overflowed with gratitude — and God wasn’t done yet.

Just months earlier, Kayla and her husband, Josh, sat in a doctor’s office as specialists reviewed multiple abnormal ultrasounds. Then came the words no parent expects to hear:

“We recommend you consider a medical abortion.”

Kayla’s answer was firm: absolutely not — never again.

A Mother Redeemed

Years before, Kayla had made that painful decision once before — an abortion she deeply regretted. It was a dark chapter filled with fear, shame, and self-condemnation.

But now, standing face-to-face with a similar choice, she had a new heart — one redeemed by Jesus.

“There were no guarantees this baby would live,” she said. “But I really trusted the Lord through the entire pregnancy. This child was a gift from God, and however He created her is how we would have her.”

On March 10, 2021, Gabriella Grace Frantz took her first breath — and life for the Frantz family would never be the same.

When God Stepped into the Hospital Room

This wasn’t their first miracle.

Just a year earlier, in 2020, their oldest daughter Sophia had suddenly lost the ability to walk. Diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, she spent 24 days in the hospital, unable to move.

“While doctors did everything they could, we turned her room into an altar before the Lord,” Kayla said. “Bible verses covered the walls. When you walked in, you could feel His presence.”

Then, one day, Sophia stood up out of her bed and began to walk. Doctors were stunned — there was no medical explanation.

Kayla and Josh knew exactly who deserved the glory: Jesus.

Beauty in Brokenness

Despite the miracles, Kayla often struggled with her past.

“I still felt guilt and shame from the choices I’d made,” she admitted. “Could God really forgive me?”

Then one night, as she held baby Gabriella — a little girl with a crooked spine and one eye, yet perfect in her mother’s eyes — Kayla finally understood how God saw her.

“In that moment, I realized: I am broken and flawed, but I am His — and loved beyond measure.”

The words of Ephesians 3:17-19 came alive to her heart:

“I pray that you… may have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ… and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.”

“In that moment, I was released from my past,” Kayla said. “I knew I was truly forgiven. Everything I had gone through brought me here.”

Living Proof of Grace

Today, Gabriella is 3 years old, thriving in preschool — and even a big sister now. Though she still faces physical challenges, her life is a daily reminder of God’s faithfulness.

“Every specific prayer has been answered — from sitting up, to crawling, to speaking words,” Kayla said. “Her life has been a walking testimony. And we send all the glory back to God.”

Through it all, Kayla stands firm: “I plant my feet on the rock — Jesus.”

🙏 Her story reminds us that even in brokenness, God’s love makes us beautiful and beloved.
