Here’s how God showed up in Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
First responders arrived at the scene of a devastating head-on collision. One driver was already pronounced dead. The other — 53-year-old Ron Clock — was trapped upside-down in his crushed vehicle, barely breathing.

EMT Sarah Pruitt recalls,
“With how severe it was, I thought he might die before we could get him out of the car. I told the team, ‘Please hurry.’”
Once freed, paramedics stabilized his two collapsed lungs and airlifted him to Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.
When Ron’s mother, Geri, received the call, her heart sank.
“They were fighting to keep him alive. He was pretty close to dead.”
As Geri and her husband made the eight-hour drive, she called family and friends to pray.
“When God’s people pray, things change. We thought we’d lose Ron that day.”

‘His Body Was So Broken’
Doctors quickly assessed the damage. Ron had multiple fractures, crushed chest cavities, and internal bleeding.
Dr. Schuler said,
“His Glasgow Coma Scale was a 4 — very low. He had life-threatening injuries.”
“It was just hard to see him that way,” Geri said. “His body was so broken — tubes everywhere.”
After days of surgeries, doctors discovered something shocking: Ron had suffered an Atlanto-occipital dislocation, also known as an internal decapitation.
Dr. Eric Marvin, his neurosurgeon, said, “Most people with this injury die instantly. For him to survive was remarkable.”
A Mother’s Prayer for God’s Glory
Before surgery, Dr. Marvin warned that recovery was unlikely.
“We don’t even discuss walking again in cases like this.”
But Geri’s faith didn’t waver.
“I wrote in my journal: ‘God, please heal Ron. Let him live. For Your glory.’”
As prayer networks grew online, hope began to rise.
Three weeks later, Ron blinked in response to his brother’s voice.
“He said, ‘If you understand me, blink once.’ I did — and he just grinned. He knew I was still here.”
Geri said, “It was incredible. I wasn’t going to lose my son. I just thanked God.”

Still Standing by Grace
Despite the odds, Ron walked again.
“There was a strength outside of me. I knew I was walking with God.”
Dr. Marvin said, “For someone with this type of spinal injury to walk out of the hospital — that’s impressive.”
Today, Ron lives with no paralysis or brain damage. He gives all the glory to God.
“I should have been dead, but I’m still here. Still standing — by the grace of God.”
