Here’s how God has shown up in Smithfield, NC 27577.
Tammy Ward and her husband, Ken, loved spending time together—especially cooking. But in 2009, Tammy suddenly began throwing up every day and losing weight fast.
“I thought it was just stress,” she said. “I started throwing up and dropped from 140 pounds. Nothing stayed down.”
Ken recalls, “We went from doctor to doctor. Every test came back the same: ‘We don’t know what’s wrong.’”
Months turned into years. The pain above her stomach was unbearable. She worked less and prayed more. Finally, in 2010, doctors diagnosed her with gastroparesis—a rare, incurable disorder that stops the stomach from processing food.
Her doctor, Peter Roethling, said, “You could see the steady decline. It was worrisome.”

Losing Strength but Holding Faith
Over the next four years, Tammy’s condition worsened. She lost over forty pounds and eventually had to quit work.
Ken said, “It was hard watching her fade. She was so strong, then so weak.”
Yet Tammy never lost faith. “I crawled on my knees around the house praying,” she said. “I’d tell God, ‘Whatever Your will is, help me, Lord.’”
In 2014, she tuned into The 700 Club where Pat Robertson was answering a viewer’s question about healing. He said, “He wants everyone to be healed… but check your heart for unforgiveness.”
Tammy took it to heart. “I said, ‘God, if I’ve wronged anyone, let them forgive me. I forgive them too.’”
She finally felt spiritual peace — but her body was still breaking down.
Her church family continued to pray, even offering her a burial plot. Down to 80 pounds and unable to drink water, Tammy’s bones showed through her skin. “You could see my heart beating under my shirt,” she said.
The Dream That Changed Everything
On the night of September 1, 2014, Tammy prayed for God to take her home. But that night, she had a dream.
“I was shouting, ‘I don’t need anyone—Jesus Christ is all I need!’” Tammy recalled. “Then something hit my right shoulder hard, and a voice said, ‘You are healed.’”
When she woke up, the pain was gone. “I didn’t hurt anymore,” she said. “I got up with no trouble and felt different.”
At a doctor’s appointment later that day, her physician was stunned. “What happened?” he asked. “Your color’s back. You’ve been healed.”
Every test came back normal. “He said, ‘I’ll say it — you’ve been healed,’” Tammy remembered.
The First Meal

On the drive home, Tammy felt something she hadn’t in years: hunger.
“I said, ‘Lord, I’m not testing You, but I’m hungry now,’” she laughed. “I pulled into Bojangles and ordered a ham biscuit. It took me an hour to eat it because I cried and prayed the whole time.”
Her husband said, “It was great to have her back — a miracle.”
Over the next months, Tammy regained her full health and strength.
Dr. Roethling confirmed, “In all my years, this was one of those undeniable miracles I’ve seen.”
A Life Fully Restored
Today, Tammy is completely healthy, praising God for her healing.
“I learned I’m not in control—He is,” she said. “If we never had difficulties, we wouldn’t learn who God is. That’s when you realize God is all you ever needed.”
🙏 Tammy’s story reminds us: even when your body is breaking, your faith can lead you to a breakthrough.
